@ScottyKilmer would you please stop posting content where you don’t know what you are talking about!!!! As a mechanic a clean engine is appreciated it makes our jobs easier and faster as well as cleaner, you said don’t clean it unless you are trying to find a leak ? If the engine is kept clean it will make it easier to see leaks without having to waste time using leak finder and a light that’s just common sense. It’s like saying oh don’t clean your butt crack nobody’s gonna see it anyway, it’s just gonna get filthy again once you take another dump. Freaking stupid if one does their research and properly cleans their engine bay then there will be no problems but just as you prove on this video people don’t always do their research

I detailed cars for a living a long time ago. Your older engines pre coil packs are fine to power wash. Just stay away from the distributor. The most important thing is to wait in some cases at least a day for everything to dry out. I remember Fords and Dodge's were notorious for not starting until they were completely dry. Use a air hose to blow access water from places that pool.

And when you driving your car down the road and it's raining you're getting water on the motor anyway. It splashes up on there your components are supposed to be sealed and if they're leaking you need to fix them because they are posed to be semi waterproof. A person who knows about motors knows how to wash them without hurting them this advice is for people who do not know anything about motors.

I can tell it this way. Do not wash your engine bay before you have got familiar with your car and whats where. I washed an engine bay in a car i recently bought. And i didnt know my intake hose hadd a big crack between tha sensor and throttle. I got some issues. Car stalled when i was accellerating and it took 5 min to make it start agsin and it suffered by durging for awhile. And since then it always got some surging in accellerating at 1900 to 2300 rpms on full throttle. But its nice with a clean engine anyway. Now i have Bmw and have read that old oil masses on coolant hoses can damagage hoses. And since the battery is in the back and pretty much all of the ignition system is hidden there i took it to the car wash and used the pistol, degreasechem, shampoo and real good wash everywhere i could reach too. And that with good confidense i wouldnt get problems. It took awhile getting of the old oil from the hoses etc. In Norway the engine bay getting exposed anyway. And salty water from the road reaching the pulley bearings anyway. So it is often in Norway we get annoying nagging sound from the bearings on pulleys, alternator. So in my case washing the engine couldnt get worse. But i see that toyota have a lit of exposed electronics. So i would dare wash it. Having in my mind to open up some parts and dry if water got in and maybe spray into contacts etc with electronic oil. But bedides i understand why not to wash there. But salt contamination isnt better either. Our cars and trucks are often grey. When i was driving truck it occured after ferryrides in storm. And when truck dried when ferry docking the truck was bright grey and windows sere white. Because of saltwater. All splashing between november an out february contains a lit of salt. And that get in enginebsy from upunder and through radiator. So dometimes one or another might experience electric cooling fan doesnt work for awhile. The bmw i bought i concluded that the aux fan in front didnt work. Since it had mechanical main fan. But the Ac worked poorly. Now 2 years later it suddenly working. Variable speeds. And it works do intense when ac is on at hot summerday that it attracts attention from pedestrians walking by. And Ac generates cooling enough that it get moist outside of the windows. And as i thought that was enough. Even i notice the clutch on the mechanical fan working. For three days ago i wondered what the f.... is that sound when i started to drive. And i stopped and revved the engine and it made blow in the enginebay. I am very used too that on trucks. Those fans get really noisy. They work that way the clutch is engaged for a while everytime we start to drive and for a while. It is to "tell" they working. Only annoying thing is when driving off ferries and start directly on uphills the fans require noticeable amounts of horsepowers. So for them waiting on land ready to drive onboard only hearing the fans overdeafing the engines 12-17 litres. So even those engines get resistance. But off course they are needed this way uphills when loaded to 50 tons. So much steep hills with turns etc that it is deaccellerating and accellerating all the time. Still engines here averagly driving 600 000km this ways and maybe there have been a little oul leak repair beside the services. At least on Scanias. Maybe one or another can get severe problems. But thst is rare. So i always wondered have it would been driving with a scania in Usa, where its almost constantly flat. Our normal climbs are between 8and 12%. And turbinebrake(retarder)on Scania can tolerate 30 tons overload in 140kph in downhill easy. While others just tell overheat after a little while under normsl circumstanses and seitch early off. A scania here drives in 90kph(~55mph) at between 1100 and 1250rpms. And we drive often highest gear also uphills. Before we drove 38 kph in hillclimb when we was 35-42 tons. Now we have to slow down to corners (75-90kph) in those hillclimbs. I have never seem the engine temp have been to high either. Instead of tandem we use regular tagaxle behind driveaxle. On snow/ice we luft the tagaxle and get 17-24 tons on driveaxle. And there we pick up grip. On tandems we spread the weight and when not heavy loaded there isnt friction enough. So a scania would do Usa fine. Maybe those v8s is too much. But anyway. One neg thing is our length redtrictions are also on total length and not only loading length, so therefor short cabins. And they might look smaller for americans by impression on tv etc. But i have parked next to some US trucks. And then the Us trucks are looking very strange. Because it was not that impressions i got from american movies😊 many american truckdrivers think eurotrucks dont manage long haulage and heat. They might drive longer each directions but here the trips repeat instantly. So they are constantly on the road. Last company i drove for had 2 trucks who are almost impossible to drive by our truckdealer for service/repairs. Because the trucks changed drivers everyweek so barely there was available few hours one or another weekend. But it is normsl for this company haveing delayed services. So often we had to call the dealer and telling we must delay. And sometimes called and cancelled appointments. And byses and coaches using the same averagly long haulage engines. 13litres. And our automated hear shifts are excellent and volvo trucks have developed dualclutch for some years ago. But when it comes to that i would had much more believe in diesel electric trucks. Even cars. Seems like there would be more hp and nm out of the electric engines then needed from the supplying diesel engines. And not to mention how many roms and electric engine srives with and therefor there can be ridiculous liw ratio out those. I read something an american calculated out to answer a question about what generator would operated a Tesle if it took the batterys place. And he came up with 22kw generator. But that is engineer calculation on "just manage" i would taken 30-50kw. But anyway. I searched up 22kw generator and asked in commentfield what engine supplied the generator. He answered 39hp. Then i wonder................? Is 39 gas hp electric source to 760electric hp???? So much for those high up theres frifht of collapses in the world that they found it better with the petrol straight to the wheels. But after emp stuff the cars are fried anyway due technology. But 39hp??? Ok. There might have been some wrongs in that ones calculations. So maybe thinking what would my Bmw engine produce if i replaced my transmission with a generator and el engine at the back like Tesla. And my throttle connected to the el engine which tells the petrol engine(150hp) what to give the alternator instantly. Like freight trains and cruiseships/ferries. Except maybe 350 hp and 700-1000nm my engine might just been calm on liw roms and generated. And in parking lits just on idle even if we had various speeds. Mud city driving would be idle and various loaded idles. And idle or liw rpms maintaining speed. Heavy accellerating requires engine revs. Revv limiter would been a sign of to big engine in relationship with generator. So engine suze could been smaller. But revv limitter would been something totally else. Revv limiter from the green lifht til releasing throttle after reached wanted speed. Guess there still would been burnout track😊 and could had a screwbutton to adjusted wanted "enginebraking» on released throttle» wow, we have had that technology for??? How many years now. When did diesel-electric become common?? 20 years? 30 years. Would been better with batteries these times then to go hybrid that way instead of pollution making chatgers and charging stations all over. Here in Norways capitol (Oslo) people can spend a whole evening to find a charging dpit and sit there sll night before going home. So they have power to get to work next day. And not to mention those magnetic engines which shall be working and therefor could also supply generators. If some of those technology would been put to use we would had a smoother change over time to do big reductions in oil. Instead of drastic changes. It is that fear of not selling oil which contributes to warfare. Shame

As a professional detailer, I've worked for many dealerships and I've always cleaned the engines and used a pressure washer. The thing is you dont want to use a ridiculously high PSI pressure washer. 1800 is good enough. Use a degreaser (not soap) and scrub it down and rinse again. The thing that people mess up with is leaving standing water everywhere. I use an air compressor to blow as much water out as possible before dressing it. This makes used cars sell better too.

Scotty Kilmer is wrong on this one youtubers, clean your engine it helps get all of the dust deposits and debris off of you're engine. The engine breathes better, just be careful to cover up the major electrical components thats it. You will have a show ready car just for yourself to ride around in, plus detailing the vehicle helps interior and exterior, its a great thing looking at a beautiful clean vehicle just shining under light and in the dark.
