You should use bigger sponge rollers. They come in numerous sizes. One other thing is to rolling from the top of hair to scalp. This will cause a lot less tangling

Her Rollers may have been too small for her length of long hair. She might have liked it more with the large or Medium Sponge Rollers... It looked nice though..very pretty.

Set the Clean dry hair by spraying a setting lotion solution on it first...Use End papers for the ends.. to stop that hair shedding with hair still left in the rollers and to keep the ends from getting dry and porus....Hair Mouse or a light oil sheen spray was usually applied throughout the hair before the comb out...The hair was left curly..Fluff Combed only..just combed out with the fingers..not with a brush or comb...The curls would fall and loosen on there own throughout the weekly wear. A satin scarf was worn at night..because the hair was rolled up for only one night back in the day..the scarf wearing at night.. keep the hair rolling down to one night a week.. and by the end of the week.the curls would have dropped and loosened considerably...Women never spent hours combing and brushing..Back in the day..they had stuff to do... they wanted a low maintain do it yourself hairstyle that would last all week. Visiting A Beauty Salon was a Luxury .The end resuls was very pretty..like yours..

I used foam rollers in the 70s. Many a sleepless night on rollers! I would have died and gone to heaven if my hair had ever curled this much! I would gently combed the curls out only to have pin-straight hair within the hour. You really pulled the hair too tightly onto the roller. It's taken me many years to accept the hair that I have. Now if you don't like the ponytail, too bad. I have baby fine, straight hair. I don't even use a blow dryer anymore. I love how you did the 18th century hairstyle. I do reenacting and that is how I found you.

You have to get sponge rollers in bigger size, the bigger are for looser curls, the smaller are for tighter just like hot roller set, also , try making the parts or sections bigger, if u roll under or over, this was usually worn all nite

I think it turned out really pretty! I think when brushing out, it's better to go from underneath.

So I know I'll be showing my age, but when I was young, my mother used to put my sister and I to bed with those curlers in our hair every Saturday night so our hair would be curled for Sunday. I hated it!

I think alternating the direction plus not putting them in as tightly would have been key in this. I would like to maybe see this done again but slightly differently.

Pro tip for not making the hair get stuck like that on the rolls are: wrapping them in parchment paper. it also helps w reducing damage to your hair and i feel it makes it much softer.

When I was little I had to endure those rollers every Sunday night. Luckily my Mom got a job and left home before I was to wake up so she couldn't take them out therefore no rollers.

My mom & aunts didnt roll the ends first. Pull the curler down to about a half inch timo the ends. Start ur roll 1 or 2 times THEN wrap your tips around the curler. It cuts down on rips, pulls and tangles.

Those are not pin curls! Mom and her 9 sisters always did pin curls in their hair. This was done by holding your finger pointing at your head, wrap a thin strand around the finger and then lock it in place, tight to the head with a bobby pin. When dry, you remove all the bobby pins and it produces very tight curls.

@rom rom as I stated, it's not a personal attack. I come from that era and watched my mom and her 9 sisters put their hair up multiple times. I know the difference between a pin curl and roller curl. I'm also not deaf and definitely heard pin curl multiple times. Maybe you need to get your hearing checked before you go on the attack. I thoroughly enjoyed the video, again, it was not a personal attack, it was merely a comment, stop treating like it was an attack!

@rom rom I watched THIS video though and she definitely called them pin curls, multiple times! It was not putting her down, so no need to get defensive!

She acknowledges multiple times these are roller curls, pin curl diaries is the general name for her vintage curling series. She has several videos doing actual pin curls.

No!!! Sponge rollers.... i have a horror flashback! I have natural curly hair. I ended up with a big flat hairline and then AFRO. Not a good look for a pasty white girl. I ended up jumping in our pool to get rid of it.

I used to sleep on these rollers back in the mid 80s when BIG hair was in style. My hair was your length so I didn't roll it all the way to my head. I just rolled them up to about the bottom of my ear lobe. Plus...NEVER brush the curls after you remove the rollers. Just finger brush the curls. I would roll my hair on Sunday night and my curls would be good for about 3 or 4 days. Every day they would be a little more loose and look more "casual". So glad the 80s hair isn't in style now. It was a lot of work (plus the ozone took lots of hits) lol

Your foam rollers are too small for how long your hair is. When I was little, mom would set my bangs and short stuff in rollers the size of yours, but the long stuff went in 2" rollers. For the brush out, she would use a 2" half round bristle brush, and Brill Cream. Also, wrap the ends with perm papers to help preventing them from tangling. She would also layer the curlers so that they we two deep. I have thick hair, but ultra fine, so it looks about like yours.

You should use roller papers next time it will prevent the rollers from taking any of your hair out and make it easier to take them down.
